Thomas Carleton - Lab Technician

The Lab Technician.

Hi, I'm Thomas. I'm a robotics student, CAD designer, and the technician behind The Chop Lab. What started as a project to print better pottery tools for my mom's studio has evolved into a full-scale micro-manufacturing lab.

By utilizing parametric modeling and advanced FDM printing, I ensure every part—whether it's a clay stamp or a custom mechanical gear—is mathematically precise and structurally sound.

Questions?

Consult the FAQ or query the Lab AI.

Frequently Asked

What materials do you print with?

For pottery tools, we exclusively use PLA Matte. It offers excellent detail, low friction, and a great tactile grip. For custom structural prints, we offer PETG for higher heat resistance and durability.

Are your prints food safe?

FDM 3D prints have microscopic layer lines that can harbor bacteria. Our tools are designed for working with raw clay, not for direct long-term contact with food or drink.

How long does a custom chop take?

Usually 3 to 5 business days from the time your artwork is approved. Complex logos might require a CAD redesign which can add 1-2 days.

Can I send a massive STL file?

Our maximum build volume is 256 x 256 x 256 mm. If your part is larger than this, it will need to be sliced into multiple interlocking pieces before you send the STL.
